Our team has been providing patient centered, quality rehabilitation since our establishment on the first of March 2006 at the Muelmed Medi-Clinic, Private Hospital in Pretoria.
The Multidisciplinary team is headed by Melanie Skeen and consist of experienced therapists in both Spinal and Neuro Rehabilitation and includes the following team members: Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Psychologists, Sexologist, Social Worker, Dietician, Orthotist, Orthopedic Surgeon, Rehabilitation Doctors, Neurologist, Urologist, Physician and passionate nursing staff.
Our vision is:
To be everybody’s Rehabilitation Centre of excellence.
We truly believe in the following core values:
To put the wellness of our patients first
To provide measurable and outcome based Rehabilitation
To use all available resources optimally
To retain professionalism and friendliness throughout the unit
To remain goal orientated
To keep both patients and their families well informed to ensure peace of mind
WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that the participation of the patient's families are of the utmost importance to the success of their rehabilitation and therefore care is taken to include and train families in all aspects of the process.
As we believe that the patient stays a part of our family, even after discharge, we emphasize post-discharge care and follow-up and provide out-patient therapy, if required.
WHAT WE OFFER
We offer acute, functional rehabilitation to patients with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, amputees and other disabling conditions on a inpatient or outpatient basis.
WHAT WE STRIVE FOR
We strive to support patients in reaching their maximum independence after these disabling injuries. We aim to reintegrate the patient into their community and where possible assist in vocational Rehabilitation.
The Rehabilitation program consists of a detailed admission evaluation by the entire rehab team. A team meeting is held and goals are set using the ROMS system (Rehabilitation Outcomes Management System) to address medical, physical, cognitive and psychosocial difficulties. Daily intensive, protocol and outcome-driven functional rehabilitation follow which can be up to 3 hours per day. Outcome-driven treatment programs ensure optimal rehabilitation.
Passionate nursing care compliments the progress made during therapy. Close working relations with therapists ensure a consistent approach to facilitating patients' functional independence.
Weekly team meetings form part of our Rehabilitation program. Patients are assessed on a weekly basis and individual goals are set for each patient. Information on the patients progress is communicated to the referring doctor, Medical Scheme and Family.
Considerable emphasis is placed on the education and support of the patients and their families. Peer counselors, the social worker and Psychologist are available whenever support is necessary. Self motivation, an important factor in rehabilitation of patients, is encouraged and supported by the team to reach their goals. As family support is critical to the progress of the patients, family meetings are scheduled as required together with the multi-disciplinary team. Exposure to the outer world and sport activities are also included in the rehab program. Patients are encouraged to go home over weekends once the team is satisfied with their progress.
Essential pre-discharge evaluations for the home environment forms part of the care of the injured patient. An outpatient assessment and treatment service is also provided for patients who no longer require hospitalization.

2. A Fee For Service Tariff.
Fee for service tariffs are also available which enable us to use individual accounts on all services received.

1. R O M S Rehabilitation Outcome Management System
This is an outcome management system for rehabilitation based on the international classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF). The following aspects are evaluated: structure, function, activity, mobility and participation in different levels of society as well as environmental factors. Goals for each patient are set and the length of stay is determined. Weekly meetings by the team are held to score and discuss the patients progress and goals are set. Reports are generated for referring doctors and other appropriate parties.
